Superhero Showdown (all ages)
Apr. 1-May 4
 
Ever thought about who would win in a battle between Batman and Spiderman? How about Superman versus Ironman? Come into the library once a week during the month of April to vote for your favorite Superheroes to win in our Superhero battles! For an extra challenge, pick up one of our blank ballots at the Children’s Desk (March 25-April 6) and fill out your predictions for a chance to win cool prizes. The last day of voting will be national Free Comic Book Day and we encourage you to stop by participating comic book shops as well as showing support for your favorite characters. Winners will be announced May 7.
 
Pajama Poetry Palooza (Grades 1-5)
Tuesday, Apr. 23, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
 
Celebrate Poetry Month in style!
Come listen and read poems for a while.
Wear your PJs (and coat).
Bring a poem that you wrote,
Or select from some books in a pile!
The poetry reading is geared towards elementary school students and their families. No registration required.
 
Celebrate Nature! (Grades 1-5)

The last week in April has many Nature holidays and observations. Join us as we observe some April days like: Earth Day, Audubon Day, and Arbor Day! This is a storytime and craft program so please wear appropriate clothing, because it could get a little messy! Registration is required and begins Apr. 15.

Storytime @ Randall Oaks Branch

We’re bringing storytime over to our new branch, located on the lower level of the Randall Oaks Recreation Center at 500 North Randall Road in West Dundee (just south of Randall Oaks Petting Zoo)! Children and their caregivers can drop-in and enjoy stories, songs and more at the Randall Oaks Branch Library. Storytime is free, and no registration is required.
 
All storytimes start at 10:30 a.m.:
Mondays: Feb. 25, Mar. 4 & 18, Apr. 1 & 15, May 6 & 20
Saturdays: Mar. 16 & 23, Apr. 20 & 27


Free Kids Movie & Popcorn in Meeting Room
Doors open half hour before showtime. Free popcorn and refreshments. Children under age 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Audience capacity is limited to 80 people. NO tickets required.

Programa de Cuentos en Español / Spanish Storytime
Now on Tuesdays! Next storytime is Tuesday, May 7, 7 p.m.
  
Children of all ages and their families will enjoy enchanting stories, finger plays and Programa De Cuentossongs during this free, half-hour program. The group meets in the library's meeting room on the lower level. No registration is required. / Ninos de todas edades gozaran los cuentos en espanol. No es necesario inscribirse. Lugar: Cuarto de Conferencias, Nivel Inferior. 
 

Milk & Cookie Storytime @ Panera in Elgin (3-6 year olds)
 
ExMilk & Cookie Storytimepert storytellers from the Dundee Library and professional cookie-bakers from Panera Bread in Elgin have collaborated to create a slam-dunk "Milk & Cookie Storytime” program. The storytime will be held at Panera, located at 2482 North Randall Road.  

Each child will receive a free milk and cookie, compliments of Panera. The program is free, but registration is required. Register online by clicking a date below, call (847) 428-366 1 (press 2), or stop by the Children’s Desk at the library.


Reading Patch Club
Sign up at the Dundee Library or the Randall Oaks Branch!

Reading Patch Club Kids can wear their love of reading on their sleeve (or their backpack, jeans, or jacket!) by participating in the Reading Patch Club. The club invites children in preschool through eighth grade to read their favorite books and explore the library for new ones, which earns them patches.

Preschoolers through second graders can earn patches in the following categories: general-humor, fantasy, animals, adventure, bedtime, school, book award, sports, and outdoors. They must read, or have read to them, 20 books in a category to receive a patch.

Third through eighth graders can earn patches in:  fantasy, animals, mystery, book award, outdoors, scary/ghost, graphic novel, school, and sports. They must read ten books in a category to receive a patch. The club runs through May 25.

Playaway Digital Book
Perfect for the car or quiet time! A Playaway is a tiny, electronic device which fits in the palm of your hand and is a pre-loaded, complete and self-playing audiobook. It comes with one AAA battery and a lanyard that can be worn around the neck for ease of portability. Patrons must supply their own earphones. Players can be checked out for four weeks. Playaway titles which we own.
