Lincoln’s Legacy Learning Kits

The Lincoln Legacy Learning Kits are tools for teachers of 5th-8th graders. They have collections of books, documents, DVDs, CDs, and pictures of artifacts that offer information about Abraham Lincoln’s life. There are four units of study on the life and legacy of Lincoln: Abraham Lincoln ReadingMary Todd LincolnSlavery in Illinois, and Civil War Soldier.

Lincoln's Legacy Learning Kits

Each kit includes lesson plans, teacher resource guides that offer activities, critical thinking questions, and worksheets for use in the classroom. There are copies of articles written by Lincoln in his handwriting and other historic images that can bring history to life visually. For hands-on learning, the kits include interesting reproductions of artifacts such as shackles, cotton, baskets, and clothing worn during that time. The kits include CDs with music from the era that portray Civil War ballads and patriotic songs. Each unit of study has age-appropriate books for students to read and generate group discussions. These kits can be used by teachers to integrate all curriculum subjects into one field of study by providing information to reach all types of learners. In addition to teachers, anyone who is interested in learning about Abraham Lincoln or anyone who is giving a presentation about him would benefit from checking out the Lincoln’s Legacy Learning Kits.

The kits can be placed on hold through our catalog by searching Lincoln Legacy Learning Kits or with assistance from library staff.
