Library Assistant - Youth Services

Part Time
Hours: 20 hours per week
Hourly Rate: $14.65

The Fox River Valley Public Library District is seeking a passionate Youth Services Library Assistant to join our team! This position plays an essential role in our programming for children aged 0-12 and their caregivers. The assistant will plan and present youth programs including storytimes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

The successful applicant will be:

  • Energetic with a can-do attitude and strive to be of service and provide excellent programming
  • Familiar with children’s literature and homework help resources
  • Able to plan and present programs for youth age 0-12
  • Comfortable with emerging technologies and trends related to Youth Services
  • Ability to write and speak fluently in both English and Spanish preferred

Educational requirement:  Bachelor’s degree or two years’ experience working a public service desk in a public library. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel; the internet, email, and databases.

Weekend Monitor

Part Time
Hours: 15 hours per week
Hourly Rate: $12.59

Do you greet everyone you meet with a welcoming smile? Are you comfortable keeping an eye on things? Do you love to help people find their way around? You'd be a perfect Monitor.

The Monitor needs to:

  • Assist patrons in navigating Library services
  • Maintain order to ensure the safety and comfort of the Library patrons
  • Fill out appropriate reports and notify proper authorities when necessary
  • Perform closing procedures
  • Act as the Person In Charge during evening and weekend schedules

A good Monitor will be able to communicate effectively, work well with teens, maintain composure under pressure, stay beyond closing time if necessary, stand for long periods of time, be computer literate, and exercise good judgment in making decisions. Bilingual Spanish - English a plus.

Anticipated work schedule:
Saturday 7:30am to 5:45pm
Sunday 12:00pm to 5:15pm

Educational requirement:  High School diploma and one year work experience required
