New Adult Fiction

Just because libraries and bookstores were physically closed for months, that didn’t stop large numbers of books from being published during the lockdown period. Now that we’re back at Dundee, our Technical Services department has been working hard to process all the books on order that came out during that closure and since we’ve opened for curbside. Here’s a sampling of some of the new novels that have recently hit the shelves while you haven’t been able to browse.

As you are hopefully aware, the annual Summer Reading Challenge is in full swing! If you haven’t yet, head here to sign up for this year’s challenge. If you need assistance with the digital platform, check out our page here for a helpful video.

Learning Javascript with Vidcode

Sean's picture

Vidcode is a fun, engaging online platform that patrons can use for free to learn how to code using Javascript. I'd previously written a blog post explaining how to access Vidcode and create and account, and I talked a little bit about what you can do in Vidcode. You can view that post by clicking here. Now I'd like to go a little more in-depth and show you some of the kinds of projects you can code with Vidcode.

Make It: Recycled Paper Mosaic

Danielle's picture

Today we had a Zoom meet up for teens where I shared tips for making a recycled paper mosaic. This is a project that utilizes supplies you have around the house and transforms what might be thought of as clutter into artwork. If you missed today's program, I am sharing the recycled paper mosaic steps, tips, and photos right here. I call this a mosaic project, but I have tended to turn my projects into mosaic and collage mash-ups.

Black Lives Matter

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated every June 19 to commemorate the official end of slavery in the United States. 155 years later, we still see clearly that the end of slavery was not the end of racial inequality in this country. In honor of the approaching holiday and to recognize the racial injustices we see currently taking over the news, I’ve compiled a list of books you can find in our e-resources that are about the unique struggles of Black Americans, and what white people can do to be good allies.

Danielle's picture

Summer has arrived! I put together a Summer Playlist of songs available to download for free from Freegal. You are able to download 5 songs a week per library card, so I recommend adding songs to your Wish List so you don't forget any! For many of the songs, the link below goes to the album, so you'll have to scroll through the track listing to find the song for your summer playlist.
