In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month we have a colorful "Celebrate Latinx Authors" display up in the Teen Area of the Dundee Library. In this blog post I'll highlight the books of Latinx authors, featured in the display, who you should check out! From Elizabeth Acevedo to Adam Silvera, these are prolific authors who have several titles published for teens. Part 2 of this blog post (coming soon) will focus on new authors who have recently released their first book.
Banned Books Week? Is the library banning books now? The answer to that is an emphatic no! But, to the surprise of many, books are still banned (removal of materials or cancellation of services from libraries, schools, or stores based on content) and more commonly challenged (an attempt to remove or restrict materials or services from libraries, schools, or stores based on content) with regularity even here in the U.S.
While reading a new book from a favorite author is always something to look forward to, there's also something wonderful about the discovery of something brand new. This summer has been full of debuts, with many still coming. Take a look at these titles from first-time novelists that were published in July and August, featuring selections from both Dundee and Randall Oaks libraries.
Summer was here again. Summer, summer, summer. I loved and hated summers. Summers had a logic all their
own and they always brought something out in me. Summer was supposed to be about freedom and youth and
no school and possibilities and adventure and exploration. Summer was a book of hope. That's why I loved and
hated summers. Because they made me want to believe.
Now that the libraries are reopened, we have a lot of new teen releases to catch up on! This is only a partial list, and I will post again soon with additional titles. Here is a mix of some spring and early June book releases that are now available to place on hold or check out:
Have you gone through your stack of library books at home and are looking for more to read? Here are some new books that were recently added to the teen collection. These books fall into a range of genres-- contemporary, science fiction, mystery, fantasy, historical fiction, romance, and a collection of short stories. You can sign up to have your holds delivered to you, or, starting Monday, you can pick up your holds that are ready for pickup curbside at the Dundee Library.
Now that FRVPLD has begun delivery service, maybe you're ready to give your Kindle or iPad a rest and are itching to pick up a physical book again. Here are some fiction titles that were released in the weeks leading up to our closure that maybe you didn't have a chance to take a look at. These books are all available on the shelf at the time of writing. Place your holds now to have them delivered to your doorstop!
The Teens' Top Ten is a list voted on by teens in public and school libraries across the country about their favorite books of the previous year. The nominations for the 2020 Teens' Top Ten were announced last month.
