Ruth Wendt Gallery features stellar collection from Northwest Suburban Astronomers

The Ruth Wendt Gallery is pleased to welcome a stellar collections of images lent by the Northwest Suburban Astronomers. The collection will be on display through July 28 to coincide with the library's Summer Reading Challenge theme, "A Universe of Stories."

Based in the northwestern suburbs of Chicago, the Northwest Suburban Astronomers is a group of about 150 individuals and families from all walks of life and all age groups who share an interest in amateur astronomy.  

Get involved! Library Trustee Position Open

There will be a vacancy on the Fox River Valley Public Library District’s Board of Trustees effective May 21 due to a lack of candidates to fill all open positions on the April 2 consolidated election ballot. 

The vacancy will be filled by way of nomination of a candidate by the board President, subject to the approval of the full board at their June 18 meeting.  The appointee will serve for two years until the next consolidated election.

Born in Park Ridge, IL, I started my debut in drawing comics at the age of 10, when I was drawn to Batman, Superman, and Spider-man. As I got older my art improved and I went to The Art Institute of Schaumburg and graduated with a BFA in 2018. My aspiration is to make a career drawing comic books.

Seeking Library Trustee

There will be a vacancy on the Fox River Valley Public Library District’s Board of Trustees effective August 1.  This position will be filled by way of nomination of a candidate by the board President, subject to the approval of the full board. The successful candidate must reside within the library district, be willing to finish out current term of office ending in May 2019, and be willing to run for the trustee position in the April 2019 consolidated election. Term of office for a trustee is four years. Trustees serve without compensation.

Spend time every day with a book, e-book, audiobook, website, magazine, graphic novel, or newspaper and track your progress in your reading log. Weekly prizes and extra chances for special drawings will keep you on track. All finishers receive a free book and a ticket to our finisher pool party at Dolphin Cove Family Aquatic Center!

It's Friends of the Library Week

Last month, the Library Board of Trustees invited the Friends of the Library to drop by their meeting so that they could recognize them with a proclamation declaring October 15-21 Friends of the Library Week.

The Friends raise money that enables our library to provide needed resources for adult programming, class visits for all second graders in the Library District, technology equipment, and special events throughout the year.
