Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Karou is a 17 year old art student in Prague. She was raised by magical creatures (chimera), but finds out during the course of the novel that she has been told almost nothing about their history, or where she came from.  Enter Akiva, the angel (seraphim) and chaos ensues.   Karou’s world is turned upside down, and although she always felt alone, now she really is on her own.

I would recommend this book to fans of Phillip Pullman’s Dark Materials Trilogy. If you like this book you might also try, Many Waters by Madeleine L’Engle, Nation by Terry Pratchett, and/or Archangel by Sharon Shinn.
