Genre Guide: Thrillers

Kate's picture

Welcome to another installment in our Genre Guide series! This post covers Thrillers-- so, not mysteries. That's another topic for another day. Let's not get carried away.

Thrillers are products of their own times. We read them for the page-turning, heart-pounding story, of course, and for the satisfying moment when our hero triumphs over the bad guys -- but we also read thrillers because they are very much about life as we know it. Current events, politics, contemporary values, and state-of-the-art technology form the backdrop of the story. Subgenres include: legal thrillers, military thrillers, political thrillers, medical thrillers, eco-thrillers, techno-thrillers, and psychological thrillers.
