The Girl in the Red Coat

This is an engrossing novel about grief, loss and faith. Beth is the divorced single mother of 8 year old daughter Carmel who wanders off one morning while at a local arts festival in Northern England.  Beth is catapulted into panic as her desperate attempts to find Carmel fail and she is left to cope with her loss while trying to unravel the mystery of who may have taken her daughter.

I found the intertwined narratives of mother and child captivating while wondering if they would find their way back to each other or remain forever lost.  I would recommend this book to those who enjoyed Room by Emma Donoghue and also suggest taking a peek at Mice by Gordon Reece
