Kevin Durant, a star player in the National Basketball Association (NBA), turns 28 this week! Durant is considered one of the best players in the NBA today, and perhaps even of all time. He plays small forward and has quite a list of accomplishments already. He was drafted in 2007 by the Seattle SuperSonics, who then relocated the following year and became the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played with the Thunder for another 8 years, until this summer when he became a free agent and chose to sign with the Golden State Warriors. Durant won the Rookie of the Year award in 2008, has been the NBA scoring champion 4 times (2010-2012, 2014), has been an NBA All Star 7 times (and won the All Star Game MVP award in 2012), and won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award in 2014. He has also won 2 Olympic gold medals (2012 & 2016).

Durant is an extremely popular player and has a reputation for being a genuinely kind person. This extends off the basketball court as well. He gave acting a try in 2012 with the children’s film Thunderstruck. If you want to learn more about Kevin Durant, take a look at the biography we have down in our children’s department. You can also find information about him in some of our databases, including a biography in GVRL (Gale Virtual Reference Library) and articles in General OneFile.
The NBA season will be kicking off soon, and many people (including me!) are curious to see Durant on his new team. Preseason begins next week, and the regular season starts in less than a month. The Fox River Valley Public Libraries have a variety of materials that are sure to get you pumped for basketball season!
