Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ramsom Riggs

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar ChildrenMiss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a ride to the mysterious and incredible world of monsters, magic, and people whose personal gifts are the stuff of imagination. We meet Jacob, who after witnessing his grandfather's murder by a monster, goes on a psychological journey trying to find the meaning to his grandfather's last words, and the odd pictures and stories that his grandfather had shared with him throughout his lifetime. This leads to an actual trip to a far-away island where Jacob encounters the Peculiar Children and their headmistress, Miss Peregrine. There he learns of the magical, mystical, and sometimes dangerous life that they lead in attempt to live in the world. Jacob discovers his own gift and enables the survival of the group when tragedy strikes. The story is both interesting and entertaining, peppered with humor and the magic of life itself.
