The challenge, bring order to the whole
(From Sunday in the Park With George)
Stephen Sondheim is one of the great American composers and a musical theater master, known for songs featuring intelligent observation of human nature and explorations of what it means to be alive. Much of his music has become part of the cultural consciousness, so even those who aren't theater fans tend to be familiar with songs from musicals like West Side Story and Sweeney Todd. Sondheim died suddenly yesterday, November 26, at the age of 91, following a decades long career in which he was awarded Tonys, Oscars, Grammys, and even a Presidential Medal of Freedom, amongst numerous other honors. I plan to celebrate his legacy by diving into video performances of my favorite songs this weekend. You can check out Hoopla's Sondheim collection here, as well as the following items in our physical collection.
