Welcome to the 2021 Summer Reading Challenge

2021 Summer Reading Challenge: Reading Colors Your World!
June 1 - July 31

It’s our favorite season -- summer reading! This year’s theme focuses on colors and the many ways that reading can expand your world through kindness, growth, and community. We hope you will be encouraged to get creative, try new things, explore art, and find beauty in diversity.

National research finds that students who participate in library summer reading programs scored higher on reading achievement tests at the beginning of the next school year than those who did not participate. The mission of a summer reading challenge is to provide students with the tools to bridge this summer gap, while inspiring literacy and life-long learning in readers of all ages.

The broad motif of this year’s “colors” theme provides a context for exploring humanity, nature, culture, and science. As you will see on our online calendar of events, we’ve used that palette of topics to develop programming that demonstrates how libraries and reading can expand your world.

HOW TO SIGN UP

Online: Sign up at frvpld.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack mobile app for your Apple or Android device. In Beanstack you can log your reading minutes, view the available activities, write and read book reviews, and more. You can create your account at any time. You will be able to start logging your reading and activities starting June 1.

In person: Starting June 1, sign up at any service desk at the Dundee Library or Randall Oaks Library. You will receive a paper log to track your reading and activities. Bring the log back to the library during the challenge so we can update your reading minutes and completed activities.
