Make a colorful paper lantern in celebration of Diwali, the Hindu "Festival of Lights".
First come, first served. While supplies last.
The kit includes: Pink cardstock and yellow paper with all of the templates outlined and ready to cut, plus 1 electric tea light candle.
*We have glue sticks available. If you would like one please ask.
You will need to provide your own scissors.
Below is a link to the video that I used as starting point for this project. All of the shapes are already traced onto the card stock and paper pieces. You will need to do the final cutting out of all the components and glue them together. I would highly recommend watching this short 6 minutes video before starting your project.

Diwali Inspired Paper Lantern Kit Instructions
You will need scissors and glue.
Remove all the pieces from the kit. You should have:
PINK:
2 long thin strips of pink cardstock. These are for wrapping around the cardboard base. and you will only need one. The other is extra for “just in case”.
1 short pink strip that can be used to help glue the top edges of the lantern walls together.
2 templates to cut out from pink cardstock for the front and back of the lantern.
2 pink cardstock ovals for the top and bottom of the base, and
4 “tabs” for gluing the base to the lantern walls.
YELLOW:
1 folded strip with 2 large tear drop shapes.
5 folded strips with 6 small tear drop shapes.
You will need to cut out 2 large teardrop shapes and 22 small teardrop shapes.
It is easier to cut out the inner shape before the outer edge. There are extras, in case you have any problems cutting these out.

Please watch the video that inspired this project. That will give you a good idea of how the assembly will go. Obviously, all of the shapes you need to cut out are already outlined on the correct papers. In the video, the lamp is suspended with a string, but you can also make the lamp so that it sits on a flat surface.
STEPS:
- Cut out all the outlined shapes
- Glue the yellow teardrop shapes onto the front sides of the lanterns. There will be 1 large and 11 small teardrops on each of the pink sides.
- Glue the pink ovals to the top and bottom of the cardboard oval.
- Apply glue to the side edges of the oval base and wrap the long thin pink strip of cardstock around it.
- Fold and glue the 4 “tabs” onto the “corners” of the base so that they can be glued to the inside of the lantern. You may want to put a rubber band around the lantern while the glue is setting up, or just hold it in place for a few minutes.
- If you position the base flush with the bottom of the sides, it will sit on a flat surface more easily.
